Interests.

What the curiosity goes into outside billable hours. Much of the technical depth on the rest of this site started here first, in a home lab, and only later became client work.

01 Personal Interests

Home-Lab & Self-Hosting:

Running a personal lab well beyond what client work requires: Proxmox VE and desktop virtualisation, VPS provisioning and hardening, firewall and egress control on Windows and Linux hosts, DNS, DHCP and VPN, and hybrid on-premises and cloud setups.

Security & Digital Forensics:

TryHackMe practical work and the eJPT / PNPT / OSCP progression as a genuine interest rather than a box-tick; alongside it, evidence-handling practice to ACPO guidance and ISO/IEC 27037 using CAINE imaging and SHA-256 verification, and a working familiarity with Kali, Parrot Security and Paladin Linux.

AI & LLM Experimentation:

Running local models with Ollama and AnythingLLM, and working with Claude, Claude Code and the Anthropic API, Gemini and Gemini CLI, and GitHub Copilot — as much out of interest as for work.

Documentation & Knowledge Management:

A long-running personal practice built on Pandoc, Markdown and Obsidian, with PowerShell and Bash pipelines to keep technical learning, runbooks and documentation in one searchable, version-controlled place.

Teaching & Mentoring:

Freelance tutoring during tertiary studies, and a continuing enjoyment of breaking down technical concepts for non-technical audiences — the same instinct behind the video-training and user-guide programme.

Sport:

Rugby (1st XV), Soccer (1st XI) and Jiu-Jitsu; competitive team and individual sport since school.

Music & Sound:

Event DJ/MC and sound technician work, plus freelance DJing during tertiary studies; a long-standing interest in live sound and music.

A self-built, browser-based quoting tool with live preview and PDF export, written to run client quoting off a single source of truth instead of a folder of near-identical documents.

Single-source CV generation

A document-generation system that builds a suite of tailored CV variants from one shared content pool, with an automated compliance gate that fails the build when a prohibited claim or a mis-stated job title slips in.

Civilsoft Systems

Video-training & user-guide programme

Proposed and received approval for an updated video-training and user-guide programme for a non-technical client base, developed alongside primary support duties.

Building Kouga Digital
